I observed well-meaning parents (and mental health professionals) were unintentionally harming neurodiverse teens & young adults by misapplying traditional and common parenting methods.
These approaches most often led to increased emotional overwhelm, oppositional behavior, and strained parent and family relationships.
Parents felt hopeless and overwhelmed, trapped in a Vicious Cycle where their best efforts (and the best advice given to them) seemed to just make things worse, driving a wedge between themselves, and their teen or young adult, and creating chaos in the entire family.
